1) Our trainings are like a dojo. NLP is about body/mind integration, linking perception, intention, practice and new behaviors. Effective NLP training develops reflexes to respond well to unexpected challenges. Some of the best integration techniques are drawn from martial arts training systems. Our training is similar to a ‘dojo’ in the Japanese sense of "a place where you practise the way."
Insight feels magical and instantaneous -- but developing reliable new reflexes and responses takes time and practice. We assume that your practice partners will bring valuable insights and help generate opportunities for learning. Our teaching staff, trained in Eastern as well as Western methods of mind/body integrations (Aikido, gongfu, meditation and body work) respects continuity of practice.
One reason we use this "dojo" metaphor is because NLP, like any new skill set, requires practise. The Chinese word gongfu (kungfu) translates as "skill that comes through constant application or work". We want you to have good gongfu for the mind! 2) A playground for learning - just like "real" life Human beings, like other mammals, learn best through play -- curiosity, enthusiasm, absorption and eagerness. So we use play -- improv comedy, games, and scenarios -- to explore new skills and speed up learnng.
Improv principles enable new players to join together and create meaningful and humorous dialogue, with no fixed script … just like real life! In real life, someone is always doing something unexpected -- then you respond. No script, no rehearsal. There is always an opportunity to create better responses.
NLP cultivates flexibility and so does improv. Both are excellent ways to learn how to listen, stay in the present, and collaborate to make something valuable happen. We work with professional Improvisers who teach that any ‘mistake’ can be incorporated and turned into something wonderful. This practical wisdom not only frees up learning but works in real life!
For many people, learning is a whole body activity. We won’t ask you to sit still or to memorize jargon. You learn by doing. We provide you with notes, references and a thorough glossary. We will even help you decode NLP books. 3) We like science Early NLP was empirical and experimental, seeking practical techniques from widely divergent sources. Early developers collected (and created) a basket of tools that worked. There was, however, not much focus on formal theory. Since then, we've learned a vast amount about how the brain behaves.
We recognise that science provides a solid framework to advance our understanding of how the mind works. Science is probably the best remedy we have for superstition and dogma.
Besides, science has some very cool toys which we want in our playground and which have direct relevance to NLP. One example: when NLP started, brain imaging was in its infancy. Now it is possible to track brain activity in real time, with live subjects. As a result we can update our functional models of how best to change our subjective realities. Scientists can now "see" inside the brain to correlate external events with internal ones. It's an exciting time. 4) The emphasis is on values and ethics People who work together and thrive incorporate certain key values. In our cross cultural trainings, we invite you to default to curiosity and wonder at the amazing diversity of skills and perspectives that each individual brings with them. We emphasize that the values of respect and compassion are as important as learning a new communications technique.
Our graduates learn to first understand themselves, and their own subjectivity, and then to apply their knowledge in communicating with others. Lasting changes start at home! NLP Practitioner training: THE PARIS SUMMER INSTITUTE Our NLP Practitioner training provides the foundation for applying NLP in daily life. We encourage our graduates to integrate the essential principles and apply them first in their own lives. When you complete this level of training you will understand your own values and beliefs, your preferred learning system, and how you organize your perceptions to get results. You will communicate more effectively with the important people in your life.
In the Practitioner certification we focus on the skills to:
• Observe subtle differences/changes in body and language use in yourself and others • Use these observations to model and predict the thinking, learning styles, and actions of others • Set goals that respect other people and include the advantages and ecology in any situation • Develop the ability to create small changes in existing patterns that have far-reaching effects While it is up to you to decide exactly where and how you will apply your new skills, some results that previous students have enjoyed include:
• Improved relationships at home and work • Access to creative, restful, and productive states • A strong sense of purpose • The capacity to know and ask for what you really want • Improved health and changes in body shape • Enhanced presence and charisma • New habits that support your chosen goals
You engage in constant practice with people from many different cultures. You receive individual guidance as to the best ways to progress, and to grow your skills and confidence. Your graduation includes a practical demonstration of your skills as you interview someone to discover and appreciate their values, beliefs, and their best ways to learn.
Just like real life! Masters Program: MODELING EXCELLENCE The Masters Program "Modeling Excellence" is an opportunity to apply the skills you've developed in a professional manner.
